Turkish lira Buy: 10.3 / Sell: 13.7 / National Bank rate: 10.26
It was introduced on October 29, 1923, as part of Atatürk's reforms, replacing the Ottoman lira. Until 2005, the lira was divided into 100 kurus = 4000 par. As a result of high inflation in the late 20th and early 21st centuries, it significantly depreciated. On January 1, 2005, following a series of successful anti-inflation measures adopted by the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey, a redenomination was carried out and the "new Turkish lira" (Turkish: Yeni Türk Lirası), equal to 1,000,000 old lira, was introduced into circulation. Since January 1, 2009, the prefix "new" in the currency's name has been officially discontinued.
1 Turkish lira = 100 kurus.
As of January 1, 2009, the Turkish currency was renamed the "Turkish lira." A new series of coins and banknotes was issued, eliminating the word "new" (yeni) in the denominations.
Currently, banknotes are in denominations of 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, and 200 lira.
